Spanish Placement Exam

Unless you have never taken Spanish prior to college, you must take the placement exam to determine your proficiency level before registering.

Take one of these Spanish Placement Exams: 

1) SPANISH PLACEMENT EXAM FOR NON-HERITAGE LEARNER TRACK

Placement Exam Instructions:

  • Create an account and log in.
  • Take the test (20-25 minutes).
  • Enroll in the right course level based on your score.
  • Email Dr. Rapoport if you have any issues with the QR code.

 

Placement:

  • Score: 0-295 >  Spanish 1120
  • 296 - 349 > Spanish 1121
  • 350 - 439 > Spanish 2220
  • 440 - 679 > Spanish 2221
  • 680+ > Spanish 3400
  • 820+ > SPW 3030; SPN 3500/3501    

When you are finished, enroll in the course into which you have tested based on your results. If you place in a different level other than the course in which you are currently enrolled, please drop this course and register in the correct level. Following this scale is essential to ensure optimal language training for your proficiency level and for consistency across students in each class. You will NOT be permitted to attend SPN 1120 or SPN 1121 without this printed results sheet!

Note: If you place into SPN 2220/2221/SPN3400 and experience any problems registering for that class, please e-mail the instructor with your placement results. The instructor’s email is available in the course schedule system. Still need help? Contact Dr. Rapoport

What is the Spanish Heritage track?
Did you grow up hearing Spanish at home or in other social settings (even if you were educated entirely in English)? If so, you have access to the placement test for Spanish Heritage Learners.

Placement Exam Instructions:

  • The Spanish Program will contact you with the final results.
  • Enroll in the right course level based on your score.

  • Score: 0-46 > SPN 1340 Beginning Spanish
  • 47-67 > SPN 2341 Intermediate Spanish
  • 68-87 > SPN 3343 Advanced Spanish
  • 82+ > SPW 3030; SPN 3500; SPN 3501
  • 90+ > SPW 4930; SPW 3030; SPN 3500; SPN 3501

will not misrepresent their level of linguistic competence
will not use dictionaries, translators or other language materials
will not accept help from anyone while taking this test
will not record any of the test material
will also not offer help to anyone else taking this test
